Crime Reduction in York Region: A Positive Trend in 2025
York Region remains one of Canada’s safest communities, with significant crime reductions in 2025. Homicides dropped 67%, auto thefts by 37%, carjackings 49%, and break-ins 11%. Hate crimes are down 25% overall, with major declines across race, religion, sexual orientation, and property-related incidents. Motion - Councillor Davidson - Support for Provincial Action on Salt Pollution from Road Salt
Road salt pollution is damaging Ontario’s freshwater and ecosystems, especially around Lake Wilcox and the Oak Ridges Moraine. Despite past efforts, salt levels continue to rise, harming drinking water and aquatic life. Councillor Davidson's motion urges Ontario to enact limited liability legislation, enforceable contractor training, and standard salt use practices—and commits to further reducing road salt use while ensuring public safety.

All agenda items were approved by Council including Councillor Davidson's motion to direct staff to explore the feasibility of banning fireworks. Approval to submit funding applications for sewer upgrades and tennis court improvements. Speed limits reductions and new parking rules proposed. Council endorsement for the York Region Food Charter to support local food access. Approval of heritage designations for six culturally significant properties.
