Richmond Hill Capital Projects

The City of Richmond Hill is responsible for improving and maintaining existing infrastructure including buildings, roads, bridges, sidewalks, watermains, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, stormwater management ponds and street lighting.

A capital project is a large-scale project that helps maintain or improve a City asset, often called infrastructure.

The City's capital projects are implemented based on the approved Capital Budget.

Mayor David West's 2025 State of the City Address

Richmond Hill is growing strong, together. Mayor West’s State of the City address highlighted major strides in safety (crime down significantly), housing (1,300+ new seniors units, faster approvals), and transit (Yonge North Subway Extension underway). The city is also investing in parks, local jobs, and essential services. Despite challenges, Richmond Hill remains resilient, inclusive, and focused on building a thriving future for all.

Have Your Say! Traffic Change Proposal: No Right Turn at Stouffville Rd & Muirhead Cres

To improve safety on Muirhead Crescent, the City of Richmond Hill and York Region are proposing a weekday no right turn rule from Stouffville Road, 4–6 p.m. This would apply to all drivers, including residents, with no exemptions. The change aims to reduce cut-through traffic and protect the residential community. Share your feedback by October 17, 2025 at traffic.inquiries@richmondhill.ca

To reduce morning traffic near Cardinal Carter High School, Richmond Hill is proposing a no right turn from Bloomington Rd onto Milbourne Ln, weekdays from 7:45–8:45 a.m. This would apply to all drivers, including residents, with no exemptions. The goal is to improve safety and reduce congestion in the neighbourhood. Share your feedback by October 17, 2025.

Stormwater Management Project Updates - Ward 1

Stormwater management in Richmond Hill involves operating more than 95 stormwater ponds, 550 km of storm sewers and 18,000 catch basins to store, direct and control stormwater runoff. These efforts protect our community's more than 150 km of streams and rivers, prevents flooding and erosion, and improves water quality.

New “Slow Down” Signs Coming to Greyfriars Avenue

This fall, we’re installing “Slow Down” boulevard signs across the city including on Greyfriars Avenue (between Blackforest Dr. and Coons Rd.) to remind drivers to travel safely in our neighbourhoods. These signs are part of a City-wide traffic safety pilot project. We’ll be monitoring their impact and gathering feedback from residents over the next year.

King Road Improvements Completed

York Region has completed improvements to King Road from Yonge Street to Bond Crescent. Upgrades include a rebuilt roadway, new watermain and storm sewers, improved intersections at Parker Ave. and Yonge, upgraded streetlights, a continuous south-side sidewalk, stormwater quality measures, and a new YRT passenger area. Thank you to residents, businesses, and travellers for your patience during construction.
