Politics should be a space for ideas, not insults. Harassment and toxic debate—especially online—create unsafe conditions for officials and discourage diverse candidates. Councillor Davidson has submitted a motion asking Richmond Hill Council to adopt the Elect Respect pledge: a commitment to civility, safety, and inclusive participation. Respect is a shared responsibility.

Road salt pollution is damaging Ontario’s freshwater and ecosystems, especially around Lake Wilcox and the Oak Ridges Moraine. Despite past efforts, salt levels continue to rise, harming drinking water and aquatic life. Councillor Davidson's motion urges Ontario to enact limited liability legislation, enforceable contractor training, and standard salt use practices—and commits to further reducing road salt use while ensuring public safety.

On Victoria Day, Richmond Hill Fire responded to a grass fire in Oak Ridges caused by fireworks misuse. Due to ongoing complaints about illegal fireworks, I have submitted a motion to Council requesting staff to assess the feasibility of a ban. The report will explore alternative celebrations, cost and environmental impacts, municipal policy comparisons, and complaint and enforcement analysis.

In-person attendance at Council and Committee of the Whole meetings is essential for effective decision-making and meaningful community engagement. While virtual participation can supplement discussions, it cannot replace face-to-face interactions. With 36 meetings annually, my motion ensures members attend in person at least once per week, promoting collaboration and accountability. Limited virtual options remain available for medical needs or inclement weather.
