Residents are urged to oppose a development exceeding zoning limits at a May 27 meeting. Fireworks are allowed on Victoria Day and Canada Day but require permits otherwise. City offices will close May 19 for the holiday. Upcoming events include public meetings on zoning, environmental studies, and conservation efforts.

The City of Richmond Hill has hired WSP to study stormwater management in certain areas, including Elm Grove Avenue, Gallacher Avenue, Blyth Street, and parts of Coon’s Road and Parker Avenue. This study will help plan future road upgrades. Experts will conduct surveys, including in natural spaces behind properties on Blyth Street. Field investigations are expected to start on May 26, 2025, and continue until the end of June.

Council meetings are vital for governance, with this motion requiring weekly in-person attendance, by Council Members allowing limited virtual participation. Richmond Hill introduces a site alteration permit for small developments under new Ontario legislation. Zoning amendments proposed for residential projects at Beech and Harris Avenues, and Bayview Avenue.

On the agenda are requests for comments for Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments for 1501 19th Avenue and 11 Harris Avenue. At 1501 19th, the proposal includes thirteen three-storey townhouse units on a private condominium road. At 11 Harris, the plan is for a ten-storey mixed-use development featuring 119 residential units and commercial space.

King Road paving (May 12-16) will impact traffic. A virtual open house (May 12) will cover zoning in sensitive areas. Council is reviewing servicing allocation rules and zoning changes for new developments. Short-term rental regulations are under review for October 2025. Council debated in-person attendance and speed camera delays. Upcoming events include Doors Open, a plant sale, and a heritage exhibit. Business tax relief is available from April to June.

To complete final paving, traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction on King Road, west of Yonge Street, to the intersection. From Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, 2025, three lanes will be reduced to two lanes at all times for construction. Access remains open for emergency services and driveways. Signs will guide travellers. This work is part of improvements to King Road, expected to finish in summer 2025. Weather may affect schedules. York Region will provid
