Traffic Safety Improvements Coming to Milbourne Lane

York Region will be implementing a U-turn restriction on Milbourne Lane at Bloomington Road to address ongoing traffic safety concerns raised by local residents.

Councillor Carol Davidson has been working with residents and City staff to find a solution to the growing problems on Milbourne Lane. The private lane has increasingly been used by parents dropping off students at nearby Cardinal Carter Catholic High School.

Residents have reported that some drivers turn onto the lane, make U-turns, and drop off students in the middle of the street before heading back to Bloomington Road. In many cases, vehicles are also entering private property and using residents’ driveways to turn around.

The situation has created significant congestion during weekday mornings and raised serious safety concerns for the neighbourhood. Residents have struggled to exit their driveways to get to work, while the repeated trespassing and traffic conflicts have become increasingly frustrating.

Councillor Davidson says she is relieved that a resolution is now being put in place.

“Residents have been dealing with unsafe traffic and daily congestion for far too long. I’m pleased that York Region has taken action and that we were able to work together to move toward a solution.”

The new U-turn restriction is expected to help reduce unsafe manoeuvres and discourage drivers from using Milbourne Lane as an informal drop-off point.

Councillor Davidson continues to encourage parents and drivers to respect local traffic rules and private property when travelling near schools and residential neighbourhoods. Safe and respectful driving helps ensure that residents, students, and families can all move through the community safely.

When will these safety measures implemented?

The U-turn restriction will be implemented in spring 2026.

How will these safety measures be enforced?
