Dog Owners: Pick Up After Your Pets

Most owners are responsible. This message is for those who are not.

Collage of various images showing dog waste on snow and grass, a dog, a littered bag, and a sign for waste disposal. Circles highlight waste.

Dog waste is being left on sidewalks, parks, and trails across Oak Ridges. This is unacceptable and disgusting.

Dog waste is not just unpleasant. It creates health risks, attracts pests, and makes public spaces unusable for families, seniors, kids, cyclists, and other dog walkers. No one should have to dodge piles on a morning walk or step in it on the way to school.

Dog waste is not harmless. It carries bacteria and parasites, attracts pests and wildlife, and washes into streams, and into our lakes.

Winter makes it worse. Waste gets buried in snow and returns during the thaw. City crews then spend time cleaning it instead of maintaining roads, parks, and sidewalks, increasing costs for everyone.

If you own a dog, you must:

  • Carry bags every walk

  • Pick it up immediately

  • Put it in a garbage bin

  • Never leave it behind

There are 172 garbage bins in Oak Ridges parks and trails. Use them.

Respect your neighbours. Respect shared spaces. Clean up after your dog.
