Great news! A recent update to the York Region District School Board's Finance and Property Standing Committee confirms that construction of the Dr. Bette Stephenson Secondary School in Oak Ridges is set to begin in July 2025.

Upcoming Road Closure – Stouffville Road (Bayview to Leslie) Stouffville Road will be closed between Bayview Ave. and Leslie St. from July 2–4, 2025, for the installation of wildlife tunnels to protect endangered Jefferson Salamanders. These permanent tunnels support species recovery and reduce future road closures. Emergency and local access will be maintained; through traffic is not permitted. Signs will guide drivers. Dates may change due to weather.

Dedicated Lake Wilcox Park Officers will patrol on weekends and will focus on proactive enforcement of key issues such as illegal BBQs, unauthorized large groups, unpermitted tents, fishing off the boardwalk, e-scooter use, parking violations, noise, and littering.

On Victoria Day, Richmond Hill Fire responded to a grass fire in Oak Ridges caused by fireworks misuse. Due to ongoing complaints about illegal fireworks, I have submitted a motion to Council requesting staff to assess the feasibility of a ban. The report will explore alternative celebrations, cost and environmental impacts, municipal policy comparisons, and complaint and enforcement analysis.
