Q2 2025 Housing Report Card: Starts, Sales, and Employment
Richmond Hill is building more homes and creating jobs but still missing housing targets, with weak sales and no new rentals. Compared to other GTA cities, it earned a B grade, while most got Fs. Milton led with a 113% rise in starts and strong employment. Toronto, Vaughan, and others saw major declines and job losses.

York Regional Police is expanding its CCTV network with 22 new cameras, backed by $255K in provincial funding. Richmond Hill’s total rises to 10, all equipped with licence plate readers to detect stolen vehicles in real time. A pilot in April 2024 saw a 6% drop in violent crime near camera sites. Cameras monitor public areas only, with footage stored for 72 hours. This data-driven initiative targets high-risk zones and modernizes crime prevention.
