These measures are based on public input, resident feedback, engineering judgement, and technical analysis in line with the Council-approved Traffic Safety and Operations Strategy. Crime Reduction in York Region: A Positive Trend in 2025
York Region remains one of Canada’s safest communities, with significant crime reductions in 2025. Homicides dropped 67%, auto thefts by 37%, carjackings 49%, and break-ins 11%. Hate crimes are down 25% overall, with major declines across race, religion, sexual orientation, and property-related incidents.
