Crime trends in Richmond Hill show a mixed picture—while robbery, motor vehicle theft, and homicide have decreased, assaults and sexual violations have risen. A sharp increase in commercial break-ins highlights security vulnerabilities.

Council Meeting Recap: Budget Committee of the Whole - May 6
The City’s 2024 Year-End Operating Results show a $1.84M surplus in the Operating Fund, with allocations to reserves. However, the Water & Wastewater Fund had a $2.43M deficit, covered by stabilization reserves. Strong tax penalties, aquatics revenue, and mild winter savings helped offset pressures like personnel costs and a CUPE strike. The 2026 Budget Strategy prioritizes affordability, infrastructure, and financial sustainability, with public input starting May 2025.

Member Motion - Councillor Davidson - Return of Council Members to In-Person Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings
In-person attendance at Council and Committee of the Whole meetings is essential for effective decision-making and meaningful community engagement. While virtual participation can supplement discussions, it cannot replace face-to-face interactions. With 36 meetings annually, my motion ensures members attend in person at least once per week, promoting collaboration and accountability. Limited virtual options remain available for medical needs or inclement weather.

Oak Ridges Wrap Up - May 2, 2025
Key updates from the community: a park clean-up, concerns over Snively Wetland Condo expansion, a motion for in-person Council meetings, and seasonal fish deaths in Lake Wilcox. Richmond Hill is updating its playground, enhancing community engagement, and promoting youth involvement. York University is launching co-op opportunities for Computer Science students. Upcoming events include Council meetings and a fresh food market.

Lake Wilcox Playground Closure for Resurfacing - May 5 - June 30
The City is upgrading the playsurface at Lake Wilcox Park playground with new rubberized tiles to replace the worn surface. During construction, the playground and the eastern park pathway will be closed, but the rest of the park remains open. Work is scheduled from May 5 to June 30, 2025, weather permitting.
